Tradition with a twist of glamour

Passmore and Hill House Interiors set the bar for luxury superyacht interiors

For more than 35-years marine upholstery specialists Passmore has furnished the full collection of yachts built by renowned British yacht builder Oyster, and more recently accomplished the upholstering of the largest yacht in Oyster's core range – the Oyster 885.

With the 885 being the new range-topping flagship for Oyster, the proud owner of hull number three commissioned Hill House International Interior Designers, headed up by co- founders Helen Bygraves and Jenny Weiss, to work alongside Passmore and Oyster to collectively deliver ultimate luxury and comfort fit for a superyacht. The brief was to create a work-of-art not only beneath deck but to extend the glamour to the open deck areas and huge ergonomically designed split cockpit.

A long standing Hill House Interiors client and avid sailor, the owner of the superyacht, wanted the epitome of the perfect sailing yacht and from the outset involved the designers who consulted on furnishings, finishes and even the final layout.

Once the Surrey based award-winning designers had created their interior vision and carefully selected materials, Passmore's challenge was to bring the nautical extravagance alive with the bespoke furnishings using their expertise and meticulous attention to detail to create aesthetic success.

On the large upper deck, the soft furnishings in fabrics by Dedar, seamlessly handcrafted by Passmore adds to the lavish entertaining area. Down below, the complementary colour palette flows in to soft taupes and teals in a collective arena of seating, cushions and window dressings in exquisite fabrics by Kravet and Armani – all handmade in Passmore's facilities. The master cabin is furnished with a superior carpet in Royal Dove by Sylka and chosen purposely to suit a yacht environment adding a touch of softness to the timber. The strikingly captivating headboard is upholstered in an iridescent anthracite fabric by Zimmer and Rhode. Other fabrics by Sacho and Hermes have been carefully stitched and sewn to complete the dressing, not to mention the leather-clad cabinetry with signature nailing detailing.

Passmore's Managing Director Rik O'Hanlon-Smith said that he was "thrilled to be working alongside Helen and Jenny on such a superb project and that it is true there is an unmistakable touch of glamour in everything they do". He went on to say; "the efforts of all involved mirrored the overall finish in the quality and design making every cut, stitch and hand-drawn fabric template extremely worthwhile. We do indeed hope to have the pleasure of working with much-admired Hill House Interiors on more yacht projects in the future."
Helen Bygraves, co-founder of Hill House Interiors, comments, "Passmore have been a dream to work with and this being our first ever superyacht project we relished the opportunity to work adjacently with such accomplished yacht upholsterers. Rik and his team liaised throughout the project going the extra mile to ensure that we achieved the highest quality and design. The end result was a beautiful superyacht and ecstatic owners."

Launched at the Monaco Yacht Show the resplendent 24-meter Oyster 885 Clare had heads turning with her craftsmanship, interior design and luxuriously British handmade furnishings, which were the pinnacle of attraction.
